Cavendish House is a large house built in the late Victorian era, situated less than a mile from the centre of the historic city of Chester and is registered as a care home for six adults with learning disabilities.

The needs of the service users are varied and complex, and assistance may be required in areas such as communication, personal hygiene, medication, diet and nutrition, community participation and daily living skills. Interventions from staff are carried out in a sensitive and professional manner, with the service user always remaining at the centre of the care given, and being helped to exercise as much choice and freedom as possible within agreed plans of care. The home makes every effort to ensure that the service users have a say over the running of the home by ensuring that they are consulted over issues such as décor, furnishings, food menus etc.

Contact between service users and their family and friends is arranged on an individual basis.  Transport can be provided by the home for visits to family and friends, and staff are always available to accompany service users if required.

Each service user has an ongoing, individual activities plan, making full use of community facilities.  Annual holiday destinations are chosen by the service users.  A fully qualified holistic therapist visits the home on a weekly basis to give therapies such as holistic massage and aromatherapy, and reflexology.

Staff encourage service users who have specific hobbies or interests, will help gather information and, where appropriate, attend courses with service users or facilitate their introduction to groups in which they have an interest.
